What a blessing it is to become a part of the Healing Passages community!
I am a Registered Nurse and have worked in a variety of acute and community-based positions. Currently I am also a Labor and Delivery nurse at a local hospital. I earned my ASN from Mercy College of Health Sciences, and I am currently completing my BSN through Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Additionally, I hold a Bachelors of Arts in Communication Studies and in French from the University of Iowa.
Growing up in a small town in Western Iowa, I did not know of another model of well-woman and pregnancy care other than the obstetrical model. During nursing school, I completed my preceptorship experience on a hospital labor and delivery floor. While I was there, I began to sense that something was amiss in the “standard” way women were expected to give birth. I started doing more research and looking for ways to support the physiology of birth. For the births of both of my children, I consciously chose the midwifery model of care. I wanted my pregnancies and births to be honored as normal yet incredibly sacred experiences. I have learned that this phase of life can be so truly beautiful and transformational when it is respected as such. Along my journey I also studied HypnoBirthing and have since become a certified HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator. I’m thrilled to offer these classes at Healing Passages Birth & Wellness Center!
I am passionate about making parents and their babies the center of the birthing experiences and recognizing the mind-body-spirit connection. I firmly believe giving birth is something a mother does, not merely something that happens to her.
Things I love in addition to promoting empowering birth are my two boys, my husband, my dog, dancing, biking, and traveling.
