Birth Assistant

I’m Simone Peterson and I’m fascinated with birth. I saw my first home birth when I was 6 and that’s when I decided I wanted to do something with women and labor and delivery.

Not long after I graduated from nursing school in Pittsburgh, PA in 2009, my husband Michael and I moved to Western Massachusetts for his first post-doctorate math position. There we had our own fantastic 21-hour home birth. To quickly summarize that amazing story, we met the most beautiful baby I had ever seen. My cool cat couldn’t handle me laboring and kept her distance.

In 2010 we moved from Massachusetts to Iowa for another post-doc position at ISU. I was a labor and delivery nurse at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames and joined the Healing Passages team in 2016.

My husband and I have been together for 14 years. He’s a math professor at ISU and loves football. Our first baby was our orange tabby cat, Chinook, who is now 9 years old and scared of nothing… except me in labor.

Our daughter Leila is 7 and enjoys learning to play the harp.

Back to me. I enjoy being around others when in intimate/small groups, but I also love being alone. When I am alone, I love to crochet and play around with photography. I also enjoy reading and cleaning. And I love, love, love to dance. I have danced my whole life and have no plans to ever stop. I currently teach an exercise class titled Cardio Dance where I get to choreograph as much as I want and dance to my heart’s content.
