IBCLC, Student Nurse
I am so thrilled be a part of the very unique team and community that the women and families of Healing Passages have created! My journey into this world of birth began in 2009 when my husband and I moved from Iowa to Alaska in search of an adventure. While the mountains and sun-filled days were undoubtedly beautiful, the most rewarding part of the journey was finding my way to midwifery care.
My first experience in a midwifery practice was in an administrative role, helping in the office, doing billing, and “getting my feet wet” in any way that I could. Soon after, I began assisting the midwives during labor and birth, and I fell in love with the entire process. I could tell that I had landed somewhere I was supposed to be. I gave birth to my first child, my son Henry, in 2011 at the birth center and spent hours upon hours working with my lactation consultant after his birth. The passion I was feeling for helping families in that tender time was continuing to grow, so I quickly set my sights on becoming a lactation consultant.
I was now birth assisting, assisting with postpartum care and follow up, helping around the office, and seeing families for lactation-focused care, gaining the necessary hours to sit for the IBCLC exam. In that time I welcomed my second child, my daughter Violet. I eventually became a certified IBCLC, and ever since have absolutely loved assisting families with their breastfeeding relationship.
When I moved back to Iowa in the summer of 2016, I hoped to find a birth center to call “home”, and was so incredibly thankful to find Healing Passages Birth & Wellness Center! In my short time here I have already found that there will be SO many new things to learn, so many meaningful relationships to cultivate, and such a strong and lovely community to be a part of. I am looking forward to bouncing around in various roles and developing new relationships with everyone here. No matter which capacity we meet in, whether it be at the office or during labor, I feel beyond honored to be here.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, indoor cycling, hiking, cooking, looking through recipes, taking photos, spending time with my friends and family, and chasing around two vibrant children and their cousins!
